Lucky Ferals is a daily cat reality show about a feral cat family who were born and raised in nature by other cats but who now live a luxurious life as indoor house cats while the world watches.
Stella, the matriarch of the family, always dreamt of a better life for herself and her kittens and when she met LF, a kind human, she did her best to make sure her dream became a reality. Her boyfriend Boo, the father of the kittens, and most likely also her brother, however, had other plans. He enjoyed his life of playing and hunting in the woods and although he helped Stella to raise the kittens and was often seen watching over them in their nest, as well as joining them for occasional meals, he did not want to move into LF’s backyard with them.
Stella provided a strict and disciplined upbringing for her sons, Simba and Splash, in LF’s backyard where she instilled her sense of manners and etiquette upon them, grooming them for a life a refinement. At the same time, she imparted all of her survival knowledge on them in case they should need it in order to survive in nature if her dreams were not realized and they all had to join Boo back in the woods.
Happily, within a year, she and her sons all traded in their outdoor lives of harsh weather and predatory dangers for indoor lives of warmth, relaxation, and comfort. After six months of living outside without his family, Boo also began to dream of a better life and moved himself into LF’s backyard, where Hydrox, an elder feral, and possibly also his dad, had taken up residence after Stella and her sons moved out.
Although they mostly co-existed in peace, the occasional territorial conflict erupted between Hydrox and Boo, One day, after a brutal fight, Boo found himself being taken to the hospital when a deep puncture wound escalated into an infection and high fever. Within two months of living in LF’s backyard, Boo traded in his harsh outdoor life for a life of rest and recovery in a room in LF’s house, hoping to soon be reunited with his family. Unfortunately, test results from the vet delayed that from happening because it was found that Boo tested positive for FIV - Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. The other cats were tested and their results came back negative. Since it was possible that Boo might also have been infected with Feline Leukemia, and tests for that would not have definite results for 60 days, he was kept separate from them during that time. Thankfully, Boo tested negative for Feline Leukemia and he and the other cats were then able to share toys, water, and food bowls without infections being spread.
During all of that time, several factors emerged which made it challenging to reintegrate the cats while ensuring that Boo’s FIV+ status would not be transferred to the others through deep bite wounds, the main way the virus is transmitted. The fact that Boo has extremely large teeth for a cat means that what might typically only be a shallow bite can easily instead be a deep bite. The fact that Boo is a strong and aggressive fighter because he had to be in order to survive a life outdoors, means that he can easily inflict damage on the other cats who were raised very differently than he was. The fact that Boo enjoys jumping on top of other cats for fun and the other cats don’t like that can easily create a conflict that can easily escalate into a serious fight. The fact that Stella is still holding a grudge against Boo for choosing a life in the woods over a life in the backyard with her and his sons, while at the same time making sure that she remains matriarch and ruler of her cat family leads to fights and tension.
Tune in daily to watch the cats work out their issues and learn how to peacefully coexist as a family again.
